Break On Through - Updated

Let the "Oh crap, what does this mean" moments begin.

I started spotting pretty heavily this morning, dark red. It's only CD 21. I haven't missed a bcp and I've been taking them around the same time every night.

I left a message on the non-emergency line with my In-cycle nurses, because it doesn't seem like an emergency. What say you veterans? Should I be concerned with a little break-through bleeding, or just annoyed at the inconvenience?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to all of you who shared your experiences or even just left an encouraging comment. I did hear back from my nurse. She said it's totally normal, and yes annoying, but not to worry. She warned that if it turns into more than spotting, I need to call them and they may have me double up or even come in for an u/s. So far it's lightened up a bit. The other side effect I've had from bcp's has been really sore boobs (which is a common pms issue for me) for about the first two weeks, but they're fine now.
Thanks again ladies!

Hmmm...That's a toughy. They may tell you to double on the pills for a few days. I had to do that one time.

Hope they call back soon!

I've had break-thru bleeding on bcp twice and both times my nurse said its fine. Your body is not on them long enough to get adjusted to the hormones.
I'd say as long as its not full flow, your ok.

I had it and the nurse had me double up on the pills (one in the am, one in the pm) till I got to the last day of BCPs. I'm sure they'll let you know what they want you to do but it happened to me to so you're not alone. (((Hugs)))

No clue. Only advice is take a deep breath and be good to yourself.

M, I wasn't put on bcp's for my cycles, so not sure. Will be curious what the nurse says. Glad you have others here who have been through it to share with.

Thinking of ya and would love to see you. XO

i spotted a lot (some red, some brown) while on BCPs for weeks (i was on BCPs for 5 or 6 weeks total and i think i spotted for at least 3 of that). my clinic told me not to worry about it. i hope that helps!

Totally and utterly fine, absolutely nothing to worry about, happens on BCP's. In the real world should you be using the BCP's for actual birth control you would probably need to change it to another brand.

Put your mind at rest.

Im here cheering on the sidelines for you!!

I also spotted lightly for most the week on BCP. I didn't tell my nurse because I just figured the extra hormones were messing with my body. I would let them know but I think you are fine...

I think it's pretty common. (And super exciting now that you're getting closer!)

Thanks so much for your comments on my blog :-))

I agree. I am a bleeder myself. For the most part, usually you can just keep on going and it will stop once you start stimming.

I think it's very common on BCP... Hang in there!

I always had to double up on BCPs. Just wanted to say I have been thinking of you and am so excited to follow along on your cycle. I have everything crossed for this to be it for you. *hugs*

I didn't see your post until after you had updated it - but I had the same problem with BCPs. First IVF cycle it freaked me out and I called the nurse to see if it was normal. Hopefully you won't have to double up on the pills, but looks like all is normal!
Counting down the days with you!

Sorry I'm late to this party, but glad you got an answer and some reassurance from your nurse. Ugh at the thought of doubling up on those little nauseators. Hang in there!

Agh,Sorry i'm late in commenting. It means nothing now because you've already had reassurance from your clinic (thank god because if you waited this long for my comment to come through then you'd be beside yourself by now). I had breakthrough bleeding on the pill before one of my IVFs. I freaked the F out completely and was told the same thing by my clinic. Totally normal, nothing to worry about.

Excited to see you moving on with this cycle. Cant wait to follow all the good news to come.

I know you've already heard back from your nurse, but just wanted to let you know that I spotted while on BCP for IVF too! Hope everything is going good!
