Meds

This afternoon the Mr. and I will head down to our clinic for injection training. I'm quite certain he's been waiting for a legitimate reason to stab me since about September of 2007.

Saturday I cruised over to the pharmacy to pick up my stash. As the technician handed me the neatly packed bag, I felt surprisingly underwhelmed by the size and weight of it all. The bag containing my burger and fries from In-N-Out that I picked up on the way there weighed more than the $3,800 dollar's worth of medications I now held at my side. Not that I anticipated needing a hand truck to get to my car or anything, but it sure didn't feel like much. It wasn't even all that real until I started taking the pictures of my loot, that it really hit me.

This is for us

For our IVF cycle

It's here. FINALLY.

Hers.

His.

My list of meds to date:

Folgard
Metformin
Pre-natal
Low Dose Asprin
Birth Control
Calcium
Humira
Lupron
Dexamethasone
Cipro - antibiotic
Menopur
Follistim
(Complete with lucky pen)
Novarel - trigger

Brian's meds:

Cipro.
(nice, huh?)

Although to be fair he's been taking a hefty load of supplements since June. Six pills twice a day. Remember the tic tacs? They worked - sort of. Not enough to get us there the old fashioned way. But enough to have made it worth it.

I start Lupron Sunday.
Holy crap.

So unfair isn't it? :) They should at least have to do the labor part.
So exciting!!! Good Luck with your start.

Funny, I received my meds a few days before Christmas and had the exact same thoughts. I started the Lupron about 9 days ago and am patiently awaiting AF's arrival this week. I got pretty much the EXACT same meds as you...in fact my picture looked almost exactly as yours. I'm even taking Folgard and Metformin. Good luck with your IVF cycle! The injections (so far) have been super easy!

Just wait till you order refills! (If you do. It's so unfair, but the end result will hopefully be worth it.)

Congrats on getting your IVF cycle started! Fingers crossed for you... and hoping hubby doesn't have too much fun 'stabbing' you!

Don't you love it? That lonely lil Cipro bottle taunting, "Nanny nanny poo poo!" at your mountain of meds? =P

Hoping we can still make Go Kart Racing happen on Saturday to celebrate your last day as a free woman!

It is finally here!!!! I can't believe that the day for your shooting up has finally (almost) arrived! This is IT. Keeping my fingers crossed that in a few short weeks, you will finally get your BFP!

Good luck, lady! I wish you all the best with learning how to take your meds. I have a feeling remembering deep breaths may come in handy. You are going to do great!

"I'm quite certain he's been waiting for a legitimate reason to stab me since about September of 2007." This line cracked me up.

Good luck!

I'm excited for you! I always felt better when I was in the midst of a cycle.

When I had used all of my meds I threw all of the boxes and stuff in the trash. DH took the trash out the night before and the can tipped over. My zillion boxes of meds were all over the yard. The neighbors probably think I have some super serious medical condition! haha

Good luck to you!! Will definitely be sending your lady parts some positive thoughts!

IT'S HEREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

So excited for you, Melissa. This is it, I just know it.

Ugh, injections classes. I remember those all too well. I never could muster up the courage to stick myself and always had to rely on Matt. I will say this: it becomes second nature after the first few days. Which is just strange.

Goooood luck!

love the pictures. It kind of sums up the entire fertility experience in general with those two pictures and the difference between what girls go through and then what guys do. GOOD LUCK!!!! i can't wait to hear updates. Please make them frequent!

Great news that the supplements are working their magic on your husband's swimmers! And six pills twice a day is something...though nothing compared to all you have to ingest, both through your mouth and other parts of your body. That's the story of infertility treatments, I guess. I often wonder what it would be like if the situation were reversed men had to bear the brunt of treatments, even for female factor infertility...

Yay! The meds are here! Feels like it's a holiday, Christmas or your birthday, right?

The man did my injections for the first two IVFs, but I'm doing most of them this time, and I must say I totally prefer doing the shots myself. The first shot is scary, but those needles are very small. Giving blood is WAY worse.

I'm so glad the pills are working for Brian. What is he taking?

How exciting! This is going to be your year. It's easy to get overwhelmed by all of the meds, but you just have to take it one day at a time!

So glad the swimmers have improved...I'll be thinking about you on Sunday! Good luck!

Hahaha, the pictures are priceless. Love it. They should make them into a poster and have it in RE offices everywhere.

I wish you nothing but the best of luck!!!

The pictures are great! Yes, it's so unfair that he doesn't have to take much, and you my dear, you'll be full of meds! Hoping this cycle is it for you!!!

Ok first off, your first sentence made me LOL really loud. :)

Second, holy crows batman! That's quite a stash of meds! I'm crossing my fingers that everything goes PERFECTLY for you!

The least they could do would be to make the Cipro an injection. I would gladly take one more injection if it meant my other half had to at least get one a day. (-;

Good luck, my dear. I'm glad it is here!

Best of luck! Ahhh, loopy on lupron. I remember that well. I hope any side effects you may have are VERY minimal.

And yes, it IS here! I sincerely wished I took pics of my meds from my IVF cycle. But alas, my hope at that time was not as strong as yours. I regret that. :(

BTW, what supplements did your guy take? Mine took some that REALLY helped (OK, no cure, but made a difference, without negating the need for ICSI)
