I know that most of you don't have the luxury of confidentiality and flexibility in the work place that I do; so other than confiding in your boss to notify them of your upcoming baseline ultrasound appointment, when is the right time to play your IF card? How about when you mistakenly send an inappropriate email to a client instead of a co-worker? Check out this beauty:

Hey Teresa,
Can you please follow up with Carol about this? She is complaining about it like its our responsibility...

So instead of sending that to Teresa, I sent it to Carol...
If there was a word that described being so mortified that it warranted walking out into oncoming traffic; I would use it. I called Teresa immediately to tell her what happened and ask for much needed advice. I told her that she could send an admonishing email to Carol, CC'ing me. Teresa laughed and said: "Um no, you're going to call her and apologize. You need to tell her that you're having a bad day or something".... Then there was a long pause... And she says: "No wait! This faux pas calls for the big guns. Carol has been trying to adopt for three years. YOU NEED TO PLAY YOUR INFERTILITY CARD."
And so I did. AND IT WORKED LIKE A FUCKING CHARM. I am still to this very moment distraught by my email, but Carol was extremely nice about it. Probably more so than I might have been had the situation been reversed. So lesson learned. Email protocols have been adjusted accordingly. And my punishment for being less than professional in an email to a client? Besides incesantly re-living the moment in my head. Probably a lifetime of having my chops busted about it - by my "sister".
*** By the way I welcome any comments regarding your email or texting mishaps. Thanks Clare***

Finally IF is good for something! You're so lucky to have such a cool relationship with your boss. BTW we've all done the email or text to the wrong person - my sister sent a text about how boring her date was to the guy she was on the date with instead of her girlfriend! Needless to say the date ended pretty quickly ;)
I can totally relate to this melissa! I've done this before! At my old job I had to constantly communicate with clients and there were definitely a few emails that slipped by. One I actually sent to my boss but the guy I was talking about was still on the email chain! Another time my boss did something similar by not taking a call because the person was "crazy" but unfortunately he was never put on hold and heard everything! Anyway, it totally happens and your ending is probably the best one I've heard so far! I'm glad you were able to get off the hook! Phew....
Ouch! I was the recipient of one of those emails early in my professional carreer. I sent her an email stating that I didn't think she intended to send it to me, although the mean side of me wanted to respond differently. Due to being the recipient of one of these, I always double check the To: box...
But, at least playing the IF card got you out of it!
Oooh I have another one for you... this time I was the recipient. And it really strengthened my belief in karma. This woman had in a previous email been a real bitch, she'd gone diva on me. Then she sent me an email followed by another email begging me not to read the email she sent and could I please delete it straight away. So you know I had to read it! It was an email meant for a girlfriend asking her to come over for a cosmopolitan and that the she needed the cranberry juice because she has a bad yeast infection! Hee hee, that's karma baby!
I am so glad it worked out ok in the end. I wish I had a good reason to play the IF card too!
OMG, that is too funny:) Sorry you had to live it. And you are correct, it is from "So I Married an Ax Murderer"! :)
Oh dear :-)
I sent my testosterone loaded male boss an email one day saying "hi sweetie, What are you up to this weekend? Soooo busy! I'll call you later!" It was meant to be a reply to a friend's email, but somehow my pc decided it would reply to one of his! I didn't even know it happened until he replied and said he was glad that I was busy (workwise!) but that he thought this wasn't meant for him.
I could have died. In fact I can still feel the humiliation and color in my cheeks!!
