Welcome ICLWer's! Every month I am amazed that time has gone by so quickly since the last get-together... Well, I'm sure you have a lot of blog reading to do so here's the low down: My husband and I were diagnosed with Severe Male Factor, due to a Chromosomal Abnormality. After MUCH deliberation we decided to create our family through donor sperm rather than IVF w/ ICSI. I am currently 9dpo after our third attempt. So far they have all been unmedicated, and back to back IUI's. Which means we are using two vials of ds per cycle and it's getting pretty pricey so I'd like to get this show on the road already! I just use OPK's to monitor, and I've felt like our timing is pretty good. But seeings as we are more than two years into this process, to say that I am feeling a little impatient would be a tremendous understatement. If it doesn't happen this month I will definitely be moving on to medications. Clomid? Injectables??? I will obviously be having this discussion with my RE, but do you have any advice as to what I might push for? If not maybe just cross your fingers and hope that the third time is the charm for us, won't you?
I look forward to "meeting" all of you!

Hi Melissa! Happy ICLW! I saw your comment on "will not work for baby" and thought i'd say hi since I'm also in the SF area. I'm currently 6 dpt with 3 beautiful little embies! Anyway, I have sooo felt that impatient feeling you talk about; but since I've been TTC for 5 years now there does come a point where you let a lot of that go--or else you'd go insane!! Anyway, good luck with your IUI!!!
I would suggest trying Clomid at least once because it is so much more inexpensive than injectables. We tried Clomid twice and it didn't produce more than one egg so we moved onto injectables. Good luck, hopefully this IUI will work and you won't have to worry about medication.
I went straight to injectables and skipped Clomid altogether. The success rates are so much higher with injectables, but obviously, so is the risk of multiples. I also liked that I used Ovidrel to trigger ovulation so I knew with 100% certainty when I ovulated instead of using OPKs. I agree with your plan to move on to medication if this cycles does not work...then again, I'm not a doctor. :)
For our first donor IUI cycle, my RE didn't even put clomid on the table- he went straight to injectables (which I start on Thurs). It comforts me that rates are much better this way given my impatience is overbearing!! Hopefully this is your month and you don't have to make the decision!
9 dpo, that means I must be too! I think I'm starting to use your calculations so I don't have to keep counting! Sorry I'm being the lazy one! Fingers crossed for both of us!!
We are dealing with some MFI issues as well. I hope this cycle gets you the BFP!!
Have a great week.

Hi!
We were diagnosed with severe mfi (azoospermia) and went straight to ds, as well.
Clomid is a great (inexpensive, lower risk) starting point, especially if you don't have ovulation issues. I have PCOS and clomid did nothing for me. I know plenty others that responded beautifully, though!
Fingers crossed that you don't have to ride the roller coaster for long! :)

Happy ICLW! I would also start with clomid because it's the cheapest option, especially if you don't have insurance coverage for it.
I'd say it depends on your insurance coverage/financial resources. If its all the same, I'd skip clomid and do injectibles and/or timed ovulation (Ovidrel trigger). But all those meds are pricey out of pocket. And clomid is cheap. And if you have no female IF issues, clomid might be enough for you.
I know it is frustrating to keep waiting, IF is a seemingly endless exercise in patience. Hang in there!
Hi! My first visit :D
I really hope things work out for you on this cycle. I've not yet tried injectibles, but I've had four unsuccessful Clomid cycles. We are currently on a small TTC break until my Hubs is back in work and then we'll be investigating our next move. Again, best of luck to you!

got to say clomid, at least to start. sending you lots of goog thoughts and wishes.

I'm crossing my fingers. And toes.
Good luck and happy ICLW.
Hi!
Start with Clomid with an IUI cycle!
ICLW
I hope this IUI works for you. I have no advice on Clomid versus injectables as I've done neither at this point.
ICLW
The doctors around here practically refuse to do IUI without at least Clomid. Which makes me sad.
I hope this cycle is the answer to your dreams. Good luck.
I did 6 Clomid cycles. In the end it thinned my lining considerably. So if you go the Clomid route don't do too many cycles. I've heard great things about Femara. Good luck!! Hoping you get your BFP this cycle and don't have to move onto Clomid!!
ICLW
I'd start with the Clomid. Injectibles do have better success rates but if your infertility is due to male factor and you're in the clear, clomid may be all you need. Starting dose is usually 50mg. If that doesn't work they'll bump you up to 100mg, then 150mg and so on. I'm going on 250mg next cycle since I'm the one with our infertility issue (High FSH with possible Premature Ovarian Failure.).... Here's to hoping your IUI worked you don't need the clomid at all : )
I feel your pain! I started AF yesterday....it was second IUI. My doc told me the same things when I started seeing him....everything looks great, you'll be pregnant in no time!! I think it is even more disappointing when nothing is "wrong" because then there is nothing to fix! I just want to yell "why am I not pregnant yet!?!?!?"
I'm glad you have a good plan going into the next month. I'll be watching your blog to see how you are doing. Maybe this will be our month!!
